CRICKET - MISS MAY ATTENBOROUGH’S FLETCHING JUNIOR C.C. v. MARESFIELD JUNIOR C.C.

By the kind invitation of the Right Hon. the Earl of Sheffleld, this match was played at Sheffield Park on Wednesday afternoon last, the home team gaining a most decisive victory by 69 runs.

The Fletching boys were the first to handle the willow, but fared badly against the bowling of C. Billings and T. Smith, the former bowler taking seven wickets for seven runs only, and the latter three wickets for 12 runs, the whole team being disposed of for 20 runs, Fred Morley being lop scorer with six runs. The visitors were then got rid of for 21 runs, C. Chatfield being responsible for 18 runs and T. Smith two runs, Frank Moore taking seven wickets for 18 runs and John Fuller, jun., two wickets for one run only.

In their second venture, the home team ran up a total of 83 runs, Fred Morley (28), A. Welfare (16), and John Fuller, jun. (10 not out) hit well for their respective scores. The visitors in their second innings fared worse than in their first, they being disposed of for the small total of 18 runs, Fred Morley taking six wickets for five runs only, and F. Moore three wickets for seven runs.

The players and about 100 friends were very kindly entertained to tea by Lord Sheffield, who presided. Among those present were Mrs. Attenborough, Miss May Attenborough, Rev. F. V. Dodgson, Mr. Frank Gravelv, Mr. H. Gravely, the Misses Dodson (2) and party, Mr. and Mrs. J. Martin, Mrs. Levey,
Mr. and Mrs. H. Ridley, Mr. Alfred Shaw, Mrs. Head, Miss Fuller, Miss A. Kenward, Miss Cutler, Mr. Wm. Alderton, Mr. R. Kenward, Miss Martin, Miss Heffer, Mr. and Mrs. Fuller, Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Moore,
Mr. and Mrs. Browning, Mr. and Mrs Geo. Fenner, Mr. and Mrs. Saunders,
Miss Kenward, Mrs. Weston, Mrs. Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. John Carvill,
Mrs. Hy. Fuller. The Fletching band was in attendance throughout the afternoon.

Score Miss May Attenborough’s XI, 20 and 83; Maresfield, 21 and 18. At the close of the match a tug of war was engaged in, the Maresfield boys defeating the Fletching boys by three points to nil. Before leaving, the boys gave three cheers for Lord Sheffield and three for Miss May Attenborough. The Rev. Dodgson then called upon the boys to give Miss Attenborough another hearty cheer wishing her many happy returns of the day.

Miss Attenborough has arranged to play the Nutley Junior Club, at Nutley, on Wednesday, the 27th inst.
